The photo shoot company I had went to in Hidden Springs a few weeks back had mailed me two magazines. Both of which I was on the cover. Along with fellow challenge dads Logan Fey and Aiden Swan.
When I first opened the package and saw the covers of the magazines my mind went back to that day. My hesitation to be shirtless for the shoot, and the uncertainty that I made the right decision to come here, but after a few minutes of convincing and getting to know these two guys better, I had a great time posing for the camera.
I smiled as I went back in house. In my room I hid the magazines in the drawer beside my bed. I didn't want my kids to see these- with me shirtless and all. Then it hit me. What if people I knew from my home town saw these? Everyone would know about me doing this challenge, but that's not what I was worried about. I quickly took the magazines out of the drawer and skimmed through them to see if they mentioned the town I was living in. Nope. That was a relief.
~*~
It was another couple weeks before I was able to leave the house. Unlike Becca, the mother of Robert, Aloura and Dustin, left shortly after their birth. I was left caring for three screaming babies all on my own. I never knew how tough this job was all on my own.
I was going to go stir crazy if I didn't leave this house soon. So, I called Becca and she happily agreed to babysit, while I took the older kids to the mall. It was the only chance I'd have to leave the house, because Becca would soon be leaving town for a while. She would be going to Bridgeport's A.I. center and offer help to anyone who needed a surrogate. Bridgeport's A.I. center was short staffed due to a sudden need of more surrogates. She would be there to help out until they could get more surrogates.
All the kids were excited to leave the house and do something fun for once. Well besides, Izzy, that is. Lately she has been in a 'leave me alone' kind of mood. Not even the mall cheered her up; I even offered to buy her something she had always wanted- a wolf comforter set.
"What's wrong Izzy? You've been in a sad mood lately, did something happen?" I asked as I stood beside the bench that Izzy was sitting on. I didn't want to leave her there alone, so I let Darrian, Chase and Miya play by the fountain while I figured out what was wrong.
"Nothing dad."
"Iiiiiizzy," I said, letting her know I wasn't falling for it, "What's wrong?"
She sighed but didn't look up at me. "It's Hardy."
"What about him?"
"I miss him. I haven't seen him since my trip to Sunlit Tides. I only ever get to talk to him on the phone and Skype, but I wish I could see him in person again."
I didn't say anything back, just looked at Izzy as she got up from the bench and slowly walked toward the exit. "I'll wait by the car dad."
She exited through the doors and I was beginning to wonder if it was more than just missing Hardy that was putting her in this mood.
My train of thought was interrupted when a high-pitched girlish voiced called my name from across the mall. The voice startled me from the loudness and echo of it and my head turned around quickly while my heart raced a mile a minute.
My eyes scanned the mall and eventually landed on a girl with pink skin, pink hair, pink eyes, pointy ears, and bright white wings. Wait what!? Wings? I had to take a second look in case my eyes were playing tricks on me. Did that woman have wings?
The woman quickly walked over to me with a smile as wide as the moon itself, and I just stood there unsure if I should run or what. The woman had WINGS!
"Oh, em, gee!!!! You're Jackson Daniels the challenge daddy. I saw you on the cover of Challenge Daddies and Men & Suits magazine. I'm a huge fan."
"Um, thank you."
"I wanted to know if I could be your next surrogate, unless you already have one. I mean I'll be like perfect. I'm a fairy, having a fairy in your challenge would be fun, right? Unless you don't want a fairy in your challenge. I hope you do. Sorry I'm talking too much, it's just I've never talked to a celebrity before, and I'm so nervous."
A fairy? I had never seen a fairy before in my life. I never knew they even existed until today. Believing this was probably just a dream, I accepted her offer.
~Izzy's P.O.V.~
Dad has been acting weird this past week, like ever since we were at the mall. At first I thought it was because of that Bunny chick. I think he was still in disbelief that she was an actually fairy, even after she pulled a couple fairy tricks on him to make him believe. I mean come on. Dad has been a fan of supernaturals all his life, I couldn't believe he never thought they existed, until a week ago. Besides all this I think my dad was hiding something from me. He'd been all secretive and I think everyone besides me was in on it.
I was about to find out the secret because the doorbell rang and everyone made me get it. Chase even gave me an 'I know something you don't know' smile when I walked to the door.
I didn't bother looking out the peep hole and just swung the door open. I was about to say hello but I became speechless and my eyes widened when I caught sight of who it was.
"Hey Izzy," he said, giving me a small wave.
"Hardy?" I managed to say through my shaky voice, probably from the pure shock that I was going through. I couldn't believe it was Hardy.

"HARDY! I can't believe it's you. What are you doing here?" I yelled as I swung my arms around his waist and squeezed him as tightly as I could.
"Your dad called and rearranged for me to come out here for a few days," he said with a breathless voice. Most likely because I was squeezing the life out of him at that moment.
I grabbed Hardy's hand and dragged him inside. I found my dad in the game room and approached him with Hardy by my side.
"Dad you're the coolest! I cannot believe you paid for Hardy to come visit! Thank you so much," I said, grinning.
My dad smiled, "You're welcome sweetie." He then placed his hand on his chin and studied Hardy for a minute. "So this is your werewolf friend from Sunlit Tides? It's nice to meet you in person."
"Nice to meet you too, Mr. Daniels."
~*~
The next day was the Spring Festival and my dad decided to take all of us. When we arrived we all went our separate ways and did different things on our own, but Hardy and I stayed together.
Miya ran off and joined some other kids in an Easter egg hunt that was happening. She was very good at finding lost objects and pretty much found most of the hidden eggs.
Darrian played horseshoes throughout the whole day. He loveed that game and always wanted to play. Today was his first time playing and he mastered the game quickly.
Chase wanted to get his face painted so he and Bunny went to the face painting booth. His face was painted as a skull and Bunny's face was painted like a bunny. Chase enjoyed hanging out with Bunny; she was so funny and loved to giggle.
My dad was working the kissing booth. I felt bad for him when no one offered to kiss him, but that didn't bother him. Barely anyone came to the festival, and whoever did probably didn't want to kiss a complete stranger anyway.
Hardy and I enjoyed playing a few games together. We even decided to check out the love machine for fun. When the machine said we were a perfect match I couldn't help but blush. Unknown to Hardy, I've liked him more than friends ever since we were 14. But he doesn't like me like that so I've never told him my feelings.
By the end of the day we all enjoyed ice cream together before we headed home for the night.
~*~
On Hardy's last day in Crystalline Cove we decided to just hang outside and shoot some hoops. We even decided to make a contest out of it.
"I'm so gonna beat you Izzy," Laughed Hardy.
"No way. I went to Basketball camp. I have the skills that not even you have," I boasted.
"Yeah right, then you go first."
"Alright I will."
I bounced my basketball a couple times before I ran and dunked it through the hoop with skill. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the look on Hardy's face as I landed back on the ground.
"Alright. Your turn."
"Huh?!" Hardy shook his head, bringing himself back to reality. When he realized it was his turn he looked at me with an evil grin and said. "That was nothing; watch how a real basketball player does it."
Hardy then bounced his basketball a few times too before he made his dunk. His dunk was pretty much the same dunk I did, but he was able to hang onto the hoop a few seconds longer before he landed back on the ground. It was a close call but he won.
After Hardy won he didn't rub it in my face, instead we continued to play some one on one basketball. Our game lasted all afternoon and by the time the sun set we were both exhausted and in desperate need of showers.
Hardy and I were laughing and talking about how fun our day was and how sad it was going to be when he had to leave tomorrow. It was when we talked about him leaving and us maybe not seeing each other for who-knows-how-long that he kissed him. It came as a surprised and I sure wasn't expecting it.
"Oh, ah, sorry," Hardy said, looking away and obviously embarrassed. "It was just I really like you, like more than friends, and since I'm leaving tomorrow I thought this might be my last chance and-"
"HARDY!" I said, with a smile.
"Yeah?" he asked, waiting for me to say that we wouldn't work out. I think that's what he was most nervous about by the look on his face.
I giggled and said, "Shut up and kiss me."
Hardy's frown turned into a large grin and he leaned over to kiss me once more. Kissing him back, I wrapped my arms around his neck and he did the same to my waist. His lips were so soft and my head was spinning from his touch. This was moment I'd dreamed of when I first realized my feelings towards him and now it was happening and I didn't want it to end.
Then it started raining, but that didn't stop us and we continued kissing, letting the rain soak our clothes.
~Jackson's P.O.V.~
I don't know how Izzy had gotten a cold. She couldn't stop sneezing at all when we dropped Hardy off at the airport. In fact, I think Hardy was sneezing too. I swear, these kids need to wear a coat if they're gonna be playing out in the rain.
After Hardy's visit Izzy seemed to be in a much better mood then she had been a week ago, and she was all up for a party for Robert, Aloura and Dustin's birthday. She even offered to make their birthday cake and she never liked baking. Something was definitely up with her. Must have been that Hardy kid, but I'm not going to ask questions because I have a feeling I don't want to know or even think about it.
Bunny's pregnancy was going smoothly but she seemed to be getting much bigger than the last mothers, but I assumed it had something to do with fairies, so I never bothered to ask.
The babies' due date was getting close so Bunny and I decided to pass the time by playing some dominoes. She said she was never really good at the game, so I felt like I had this game in the palm of my hands. But when I lost I was surprised and Bunny couldn't stop giggling at me. I think I was just played for a fool.
After the constant giggles from my lost, Bunny went into labor. I didn't freak out beccause I was used it by now. I calmly collected the car keys and rushed Bunny to the hospital where she delivered not one, not two, but four beautiful babies.
Welcoming babies 7-10, Koala, Hamster, Squirrel, and Echidna. All but Echidna were born a fairy. I felt bad for Echidna, and feared she would later become jealous of her three siblings, so Bunny went out and bought little Echidna a shirt just for her; saying Mommy's Little Fairy!
